Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Game Gear was released in 1992. Before the Genesis version, making it the 3rd Sonic game ever to come into existence. Sonic 2 for Genesis was the 4th. This game was also one of the HARDEST Sonic games ever to come out on any system.
The story to the game is that Miles "Tails" Prower, or Tails, has been kidnapped by Dr. Robotnik! So Sonic has to go out and save his little buddy. Seems the story to the game was changed at the last second, knowing that all of the zone pictures show Tails with you... hmm...
Graphics
The Graphics in Sonic 2 are pretty typical for the Game Gear. Better then the 1st Sonic game for Game Gear, but worse then most others. The sprite is the same as the sprite from the Master System version of the original Sonic, and the backgrounds are more detailed. Overall, its a good graphic Game Gear game.

Sound
The music in this is ok, but they aren't as good as Sonic 1's. The Green Hill zone song in this is sorta annoying, and the sound effects are the same as the 1st. Overall, its pretty good.

Gameplay
Ack... what was Sega thinking?! This game is WAY to damn hard for its own good! The levels are harder than most other Sonic games, even if they have a somewhat good level design. There is some vehicles in the game, like the hang glider you control in the sky level (sorry, haven't played the full game in soo long...) that are way to freakin hard to keep balanced in the air. Its really annoying how you HAVE to use that thing to get passed the level! But really, the levels are nothing with difficulty. The hard part is the bosses. The boss design is the hardest I've ever seen in my gaming life. And really, what makes this even worse, is that they had the best/hardest boss FIRST. Thats right. The hardest boss you'll ever go against in this game is after the 1st zone. I've only passed that boss once, out of about 20+ tries. But... other then that, the levels are challenging, which is good if you are a huge Sonic freak and think some of the levels in the games are too easy. They still are fun to run through, and its much faster then the 1st Sonic game for GG. (oh, one note. There is NO spindash in this game due to it being made before the 2nd Genesis sonic game.) The bosses will make you tear your hair out. Thats the prob with the gameplay, and its quite a huge problem.

Replay Value
Ok, this game has no options, but hey, the levels and bosses are so hard, you'll challenge yourself to beat them, even if you get "Game over" about 10 times. Yeah, You'll play it for that long... unless you get way too frustrated and throw the Game Gear down on the floor after dying the 2nd time. So yeah, it varies on the mood you're in.

Bottom Line
Good, but hard hard hard. Thats about it.
